Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 2-1 non-conference victory over the Southern Nazarene University (SNU) Crimson Storm at Library Field on Saturday afternoon.
SHC struck first in the 17th minute when freshman
Tilman Schober of Schriesheim, Germany, ripped in a score from just inside the top of the box off a left-to-right entry pass from fellow freshman
Haavard Oeyna of Kristiansand, Norway.
The Crimson Storm (0-1) answered back in the 27th minute off a toe-poke goal by Alan Armstrong from less than five yards out following an entry by Tommy Fiszel. Seconds later, the game was interrupted by the officials due to a lightning strike within four miles of the field, but played resumed after a 50-minute delay.
Senior and team captain
Andrew McInnis from Mandeville, La., tallied the winning goal for SHC in the 74th minute when he scored an unassisted goal off a loose ball in the box following a corner kick by Schober that the Crimson Storm keeper attempted to catch, but inadvertently dropped to waiting feet of McInnis.
Badger keeper junior
Will Carpenter (1-1) of Spanish Fort, Ala., earned his first win in purple after transferring from UAH this summer. He collected five saves against 11 shots and four corner kicks by the Crimson Storm. SNU goalkeeper Jeff Ray (0-1) made seven saves against 17 shots and eight corners by Spring Hill.\
The victory also marked
Steve Wieczorek's first career win as a collegiate head coach.
The Badgers (1-1) next host the University of Montevallo Falcons (1-0) in a non-conference match on Thursday at 4 p.m. on Library Field. In the past 10 years, the Falcons hold a 5-0 advantage over SHC, including a 2-0 verdict in Montevallo last season.
