Badger women fall 2-1 at Northern State
Box Score ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team opened the 2015 season with a 2-1 non-conference road loss at the Northern State University (NSU) Wolves on Friday evening at Swisher Field.

The Wolves (1-0) and the Badgers remained scoreless for the first 20 minutes despite both teams having scoring opportunities that were snuffed out by stout defensive play including an incredible diving save by SHC senior goalkeeper Maggie Dalessio (0-1) of St. Petersburg, Fla., in the 15th minute.

NSU broke onto the scoreboard in the 34th minute when Dalessio surrendered a goal after stopping a shot with the tips of her fingers only to have the rebound knocked back into net by Taven Morrison. Then with just seven seconds remaining until halftime, the Wolves scored again off a header goal by Sydney Shintaffer via a perfectly placed corner kick Alexis Lewis.

Spring Hill refused to quit, however, when sophomore Madison Camet of Kenner, La., lifted a goal over the head of NSU keeper Stacey Cavill (1-0) late in the 74th minute.

SHC took 13 shots with three being on-goal, but took no corner kicks while NSU got off 26 shots with 11 on-goal to go along with 12 corner kicks. Dalessio recorded nine saves and Cavill had two saves in the victory.

The Badgers (0-1) next visit the Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) Dragons (1-0) on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the MSUM Soccer Field.
