Box Score The Spring Hill College men's soccer team opened the 2015 season with a heartbreaking 2-1 non-conference loss to the University of Tampa Spartans with 53 seconds remaining in the second overtime on Thursday evening at Library Field.
Junior midfielder Troy Tucker scored both goals for the Spartans (1-0) with the winner coming off loose ball in the box that sophomore defender Bryan Tissott poked toward Tucker who found the goal from less than five yards out with just 53 seconds remaining in the second overtime. Tucker's first goal tied the game at 1-1 just 31 seconds into the second half when a blocked Spartan shot resulted in a free-for-all in front of the pipes that ended when Tucker struck from six yards out.

The Badgers struggled to set an offensive rhythm in the early going of the match as Tampa built a 7-1 advantage in shots in the first 25 minutes, but SHC rallied to out-shoot the Spartans 4-1 over the next 20 minutes. Overall, the Spartans took 27 shots with 10 being on-goal while SHC took 15 shots with six being on-goal in the 109-minute contest. From the corners, the Badgers attempted three corner kicks and Tampa made 10 kicks from the angles.
Junior goalkeeper
Will Carpenter (0-1) of Spanish Fort, Ala., made his Badger debut with eight saves as freshman Christian Knight (1-0) picked up the win for the Spartans with five saves.
The Badgers (0-1) next host the Crimson Storm (0-0) of Southern Nazarene University in a non-conference tilt on Saturday at 1 p.m. on Library Field in the first meeting between the two programs.
