Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 non-conference loss in two overtimes to the 25th-ranked University of West Florida (UWF) Argonauts on Thursday night at the UWF Soccer Field.
The Argonauts (4-0) and the Badgers battled to a defense-dominated 0-0 halftime draw with UWF holding a slight edge in the offensive end with a 9-2 shot advantage and a 2-1 lead in corner kicks.
SHC dodged a huge bullet in the 51st minute as an Argo shot from 20 yards out connected with crossbar and ricocheted down without crossing the goal line. In the 71st minute, Badger junior goalkeeper
Will Carpenter made a beautiful punch save while diving to his right to stop a shot by Tristian Rehrig of UWF.
The teams were still locked at 0-0 after 90 minutes and the additional 10 minute overtime, but just 25 seconds into the second overtime Marteinn Urbancic found the lower right corner off an entry pass by Felipe Oliveira to tally the winning goal.
Carpenter (1-3) collected six saves versus 22 Argo shots and five corners as Jacob Murray (4-0) made a single saves against five shots and three corner attempts by Spring Hill.
Spring Hill and West Florida will meet again later this season in a Gulf South Conference match hosted by the Badgers at Library Field on Friday, October 30, at 3 p.m.
The Badgers (1-3) next travel to face the Choctaws (0-3) of Mississippi College on Sunday at 4 p.m. in a non-conference contest at Robert P. Longabaugh Field in Clinton, Miss.
