Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team opened its Gulf South Conference (GSC) schedule with a 7-1 road loss to the University of West Georgia (UWG) Wolves on Sunday afternoon at the UWG Athletic Complex.
Wolves (3-2, 1-0 GSC) broke on the board in the game's 10th minute with a tally by Alexis Lewis and then added a second goal in the 17th minute off the foot of Katie Mitchell who blasted a shot from the top right corner of the box into the upper left corner of the goal past a leaping Badger goalkeeper
Maggie Dalessio (0-2-2). Cari Powell set Mitchell up for the score with a cleanly executed pass across the ground from the left side of the box through defensive traffic.
Just 47 seconds later, UWG would strike for a third goal by Cortney Emmert as the Wolves' high pressure offense consistently kept the Badgers back on their heels. Kara Barber then teamed with an assist by Becky Brown in the 27th minute to make it 4-0 Wolf advantage. Kelly Geary scored her first goal of the year for UWG just 1:38 later.
Spring Hill would crack the scoring column with a goal by sophomore
Caroline Holmes of Wheaton, Ill., in the 38th minute, but the Wolves would get that goal back in the 41st minute off an Alisha Greis goal with an assist by Kara Barber.
The second half started much like the first period when in the 48th minute Powell scored a seventh Wolf goal off an assist by Mitchell and Francessca Ellis.
UWG outshot the Badgers 21-12 as Dalessio made four saves. The Wolves took eight attempts from the corners with SHC making three kicks from the angles.
The Badgers (0-2-2, 0-1 GSC) return home to Library Field for the first time in 2015 with a GSC contest versus rival the University of West Florida (UWF) Lady Argos (3-0, 0-0 GSC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Lady Argos own 19-0 advantage in the series, including a 4-0 GSC victory in Pensacola in 2014.
