Box Score 3 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team took two consecutive victories on Friday to open the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division Cluster at the CrossPlex in Birmingham with wins over Central State University (CSU) and LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC), but fell to Kentucky State University (KSU) in the nightcap.
The day's first match with the CSU Marauders (0-2, 0-1 SIAC), the Badgers won 25-9, 25-9, 25-8 with the Marauders making their SIAC debuts as conference members. Senior setter
Mallory Raulerson out of McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in Mobile provided all 30 of the SHC assists in the match while also leading the Badgers with five of the team's 17 digs. Freshman
Dorina Klinger of Frauental, Austria served up 10 of the 16 Badger aces and sophomore
Katelyn Bobinger of McGill-Toolen had three solo blocks as the Badgers recorded 9 total team blocks. Senior right side hitter
Virginia Hicks from Salt Lake Cit5ry, Utah, pounded out six kills in seven attacks for an impressive .857 attack percentage. As a team, SHC hit for a .453 attack percentage (32-8-53).
Next, the Badgers downed the Magicians (0-1, 0-1 SIAC) in straight sets (25-12, 25-6, 25-15). SHC hit .280 (31-10-75) with nine aces and six total blocks in the match
SHC wrapped up the day with a 3-1 (25-21, 16-25, 15-25, 22-25) loss to the KSU Thorobrettes (1-0; 1-0 SIAC), snapping a 67-game regular season conference winning streak that dated back to Coach
Peggy Martin's second season at SHC in September 2010. Junior
Molly Griffin of Westlake Village, Calif., had nine kills while Raulerson handed out 33 assists as SHC hit just .062 (36-27-146) with six aces and 10 total blocks.
The Badgers (3-4, 2-1 SIAC) will finish play in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division Cluster at the CrossPlex on Saturday with a 10 a.m. match versus the host Miles College Bears (0-2, 0-0 SIAC) and a 1 p.m. match with the Lady Dragons (0-4, 0-0 SIAC) of Lane College .
