Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 non-conference decision to the University of Montevallo (UM) Falcons on Thursday afternoon at Library Field.
The Falcons (2-1) and the Badgers battled for 40 scoreless minutes in the 1st half until Montevallo struck for their first goal in the 41st minute when Josh Keller ripped in a tally from seven yards out off a nifty left-to-right entry pass from just outside and to the right of the box off the foot of Steven Rocca.
After halftime, both teams again struggled to penetrate their opponent's defense, but SHC saw several header opportunities in front of the net sail high over the crossbar including a tough attempt in traffic by senior
Andrew McInnis of Mandeville, La., that just missed creeping under the bar in the 79th minute.
UM salted the game away in the 89th minute when Lewis Hill scored in the lower right corner off an assist from the top of the box by Srdjan Dujkovic.
Badger goalkeeper junior
Will Carpenter (1-2) of Spanish Fort, Ala., made six saves against 19 shots and four corner kicks by the Falcons while Montevallo keeper Yannic Horn made five saves versus 16 shots and four corners by SHC.
The Badgers (1-2) now enjoy a week off before opening a four-game road swing next Thursday at the University West Florida (UWF) Argonauts (2-0) in Pensacola with a non-conference match scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at the UWF Soccer Field. UWF owns a 23-0-1 advantage in the series including a 3-2 conference verdict in Pensacola last year.
