Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team won a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) game over the Miles College Lady Bears by a score of 2-1 on Friday afternoon at Murray Field.
SHC took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when senior first baseman
Elise deBruler lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that brought in junior catcher
Samantha Leach from 3rd base after she had led off the inning with a double to deep right-centerfield.
The Lady Bears (5-21, 4-7 SIAC) gave the Badgers all they could handle by tying the game at 1-1 in the 3rd inning when they scored an unearned run off consecutive infield errors by the Badgers.
SHC retook the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning when reserve outfielder freshman
Randi DeArmitt slapped a single up the middle to bring in fellow reserve outfielder junior
Lauren Stewart from 2nd base with two outs off Kendreuna McPherson who moved to the circle for shortstop with two outs and runners on 1st and 2nd bases.
Badger starter junior
Caroline Sagrera (18-5) struck out 16 batters with two walks and gave up only one hit in the form of a leadoff double to left-center by McPherson in the 6th inning. Miles starter Karla Kennedy took the loss in 5.2 innings and held the Badgers to six hits with two walks and a strikeout.
Sophomore centerfielder
Jenna Charnock, Leach and deBruler each had two hits for Spring Hill.
Spring Hill (24-6, 11-0 SIAC) will host the Lady Bears again on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at Murray Field.
