Badgers bitten twice by UNA Lions in non-conference twin bill
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team lost both halves of a non-conference doubleheader versus the University of North Alabama (UNA) Lions by the scores of 15-4 and 11-6 at historic Stan Galle Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lions (20-5) clubbed 14 hits in the first game as junior starter Hunter Nowak (2-1) took the loss in four innings with seven hits allowed, four walks and a strikeout. Kyle Stephenson (2-0) of the Lions went five innings with six hits, a walk and two strikeouts in the victory.

A six-run 1st inning doomed the Badgers in Game Two as sophomore Jordan Fontenelle (0-2) allowed six hits with three walks and no strikeouts. Spring Hill responded with three runs off Lion starter Shawn Smirnoff in the bottom of the frame, but Blake Talley (2-0) came in with one out to stop the bleeding for UNA and earn the win in 4.2 innings of work with six hits given up with two walks and six strikeouts.

The two teams combined for 45 hits in the twin bill with UNA totaling 28 and SHC tallying 17. Badger freshman second baseman Hunter DArmond and sophomore shortstop Thomas Smith each had three hits with a double and two RBIs for their day's efforts while senior first baseman Kyle Freeman added three hits and an RBI to the Spring Hill cause.

For UNA, centerfielder and leadoff hitter Dylan Calhoun was 8-for-11 with five RBI and right fielder Jake Smith collected five hits with two runs driven-in.

The Badgers (17-9, 8-0 SIAC) will next host the Kentucky State University Thorobreds (7-12, 6-3 SIAC) in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) doubleheader on Saturday at historic Stan Galle Field beginning at 3 p.m.
