Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team took a 12-6 victory over the Miles College Bears at historic Stan Galle Field on Sunday afternoon to complete a three-game sweep of the visitors from Fairfield and remain perfect in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play at 8-0 on the year.
Spring Hill's junior right-hander
Wesley Parrish evened his season record at 3-3 with a six-inning performance that netted him six strikeouts against six hits allowed and two walks.
The Badgers scored two runs in the 1st inning off back-to-back RBI-singles by left fielder
Kyle Freeman and designated hitter
Ryan Stevens. Three more runs crossed the plate for the home team in the 3rd frame off a wild pitch by the Bears, another run-scoring single to left by centerfielder
Garrett Webb and a sacrifice fly to center by second baseman
Hunter DArmond.
In the 4th inning, right fielder
Taylor Eads tacked on two runs with his sixth home run of the year that cleared the scoreboard in left field. The Bears scratched out an unearned run off two Badger infield errors in the top of the 5th inning, but SHC answered back with three runs in the bottom of the frame as a sacrifice bunt attempt by DArmond ended up in two runs crossing the plate when pitcher Christopher Elias' throw to 1st base sailed down the right field line and shortstop
Thomas Smith brought in DArmond with a grounder to short.
Miles refused to quit and rallied to score a run in the 6th off an RBI-double by shortstop Justin Brown and tallied three unearned runs off three Badger errors in the 8th inning. SHC added two runs in their half of the 8th inning off two hits, an error by the Bears and a sacrifice fly by Eads. Miles would close the day's scoring with an RBI-single by Brown in the 9th inning.
Elias took a complete-game loss for Miles and allowed 12 hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
Eads enjoyed a 3-for-4 day with three RBIs and came within a triple of hitting for the elusive cycle. The senior is now hitting an astounding .560 with a slugging percentage of .905 in 24 starts this season. Stevens and Smith both had a pair of hits and an RBI for SHC.
Brown was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored as left fielder Ernest Harris and reserve first baseman Brandon Fair each collected two hits for Miles (8-15, 4-5 SIAC).
The Badgers (17-7, 8-0 SIAC) will host the University of North Alabama Lions (17-5) in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at historic Stan Galle Field beginning at 3 p.m.
