Box Score 2 WESTWEGO, La. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with the Loyola University (La.) Wolf Pack by winning the opener 3-1 and falling 6-5 in the nightcap on Tuesday at Segnette Field.
In the first game, junior catcher
Alex Jones broke up a 1-1 tie in the top of the 7th inning with a bases-loaded single to left field that brought in two runs with one out and Badger reliever
Johnathan Billings picked up his third save of the season by facing four batters in the bottom of the 7th frame, handing out a strikeout, an infield single, a fly ball to center and ground ball to 2nd base.
Designated hitter
William Floros started the afternoon with a leadoff home run, but the Wolf Pack (15-17) rallied to tie the game in the 4th inning when right fielder Carmello LoSauro singled up the middle to bring in 1st baseman Luis Anguizola from 2nd base.
Hunter Nowak moved to 2-0 with the win in six innings with six hits allowed, no walks and four strikeouts. Stewart Campbell fell to 3-3 in six innings of work with eight hits given up, two walks and four strikeouts.
Jones struck again in the 1st inning of Game Two when he ripped a double to deep centerfield that brought in senior outfielder
Taylor Eads all the way home from 1st base to stake the Badgers to an early 1-0 lead on the Wolf Pack.
The Wolf Pack, however, scored four runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to turn a 5-2 deficit into a 6-5 advantage.
Brady Hitt (0-1) took the loss in relief for SHC while Nick Moore (1-0) earned the win off the bench and Dylan Gregoire picked up his first save of the year with two innings of work with one hit, no walks and two strikeouts.
At the plate, Jones was 5-for-7 on the day with five RBIs, while Floros and Eads each had three hits for the Badgers. LoSauro had four hits and two RBIs for the Wolf Pack and outfielder Alexander Lorenzo had a pair of hits with two RBIs in the second game. Loyola third baseman Allen Newman had three hits for the twin bill.
The Badgers (14-7, 5-0 SIAC) next host the Miles College Bears (6-11, 3-2 SIAC) in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) three-game series at historic Stan Galle Field beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 3 p.m. and a wrapping up with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
