Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team opened a 3-game non-conference series with the LSU-Alexandria (LSUA) Generals by taking a 6-3 loss at historic Stan Galle Field on Friday afternoon.
The Generals (2-2) scored the first run of the contest in the 5th inning when designated hitter Bond Babin lifted a sacrifice fly to center that scored centerfield Adam Michel. LSUA then added five runs off four hits in the 6th inning before the Badgers answered back with a two-run homer out of left field by senior right fielder
Taylor Eads to make it a 6-2 contest.
Spring Hill tacked on a third run in the 7th frame as Eads brought in a run with a groundout to 1st base. The Badger brought the go-ahead run to the plate with two outs and the bases-loaded later in the inning, but Generals reliever Adam Hines dodged a bullet when SHC designated hitter
Cyrus Beermann's line drive to center hung up just enough for a sprinting Michel to track it down.
In the bottom of the 9th inning, the tying run again came to the plate with two outs, but a grounder to 2nd base closed the threat and sealed the win for LSUA.
Badger starter
Stephen Douglas (0-1) took the loss in six innings with nine hits, a walk and three strikeouts, but faced looked strong through his first five innings of work when he allowed only five hits. Rynn Touchet lasted 6.1 innings in the win and gave up seven hits with two walks and a strikeout. Hines collected the save in 2.1 innings with one hit, no walks and no strikeouts.
At the plate, SHC was paced by Eads' homer and three RBIs while centerfielder
Garrett Webb and second baseman
Hunter DArmond each had two singles on the day.
LSUA had four players with two-hit days led by Michel with a 2-for-4 effort with two doubles and two RBIs.
Spring Hill (0-2) will host again the Generals in a doubleheader at Stan Galle Field on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
