Box Score 2 The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team split a non-conference doubleheader versus the University of Mobile Lady Rams on Thursday afternoon by the falling 3-2 in the opener, but rebounding to win the nightcap 5-2 with a walk-off, three-run home run by senior
Elise deBruler in the 8th inning at Murray Field.
In the second game, the Lady Rams (4-2) took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning following two errors by the Badgers, but SHC answered back in the 3rd frame when sophomore left fielder
Jenna Charnock sent a laser off the glove of the Mobile third baseman and down the left field line for a double and scored off an RBI-single to right by senior shortstop
Shea Blanchard.
In the 8th inning, Anna Blake Barnette began the bracket at 2nd base per the International Tie Breaker rules and scored via a single to centerfield by UM right fielder Ashley Middleton. DeBruler's heroics were set up in the bottom of the 8th when Badger catcher
Samantha Leach drove in Blanchard with a double to deep right center and right fielder
Lauren Stewart moved her to 3rd base with a clean single to left. Debruler then ended the game with a blast out of left-center for the first SHC homer of the year.
Junior starter
Caroline Sagrera (7-2) was the winner in the second game after picking up her 1,000th career strikeout by fanning the first Ram batter of the game. For the day, she collected 26 strikeouts and allowed 10 hits and six walks with complete-games decisions in both halves of the twin bill.
In the first game, Karley Sanders was the winner for Mobile in 5.2 innings of work after allowing a single Badger hit with five walks and a strikeout. Mackensie Williams picked up the save in 1.1 innings after entering the game in the 6th inning with the Rams leading 3-1 with the bases-loaded and two outs. Williams hit the first batter she faced to force in a run, but ended the Badger threat with a fielder's choice to shortstop for the force out at 2nd base.
At the plate, deBruler had two hits and three RBI for Spring Hill as did Leach while Charnock, Stewart and third baseman
Emma Kittrell both had a pair of hits for the home team on the day.
Mobile's offense was led by Middleton with a 3-for-6 day including three RBIs.
Spring Hill (8-3) next hosts the Florida Southern College Mocs (9-2) in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Murray Field.
