Errors hurt Badgers in 8-6 loss to West Alabama
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team committed four errors in the field and allowed six unearned runs as the University of West Alabama (UWA) Tigers took an 8-6 non-conference victory over the Badgers on Wednesday night at historic Stan Galle Field.

The Tigers (8-4) scored their first two unearned runs in the top of the 1st inning when a dropped fly in the outfield ultimately led to a sacrifice fly by UWA 3rd baseman Mitch Holgate and an RBI double by Tiger right fielder Jake Bush. UWA tacked on another unearned run in the 3rd inning after designated hitter Eddie Kiefer reached base on an infield throwing error by SHC and then came around to score via a run-scoring single to right field by Bush.

Badger designated hitter senior Ryan Stevens put SHC on top 4-3 in the bottom of the 3rd inning with a Grand Slam home run to left-centerfield. The Badgers expanded their advantage to 6-2 in the 4th frame when right fielder Taylor Eads singled through the left side to plate centerfielder Garrett Webb who led off the inning with a bloop double to right that found a patch of grass and shortstop Hunter DArmond came home one batter later off a wild pitch.

The wheels came off the wagon for the Badgers in the top of the 5th inning, however, when two errors, two walks and four hits by the Tigers resulted in five runs for the visitors from Livingston.

Badger starter Wesley Parrish (1-1) took the loss in 4.1 innings of work with seven hits allowed and three walks with four strikeouts. Brandon Pennington (2-0) was the winner in relief of starter Josh Jones. Pennington went 3.1 innings with five hits allowed, no walks and two strikeouts while Jones lasted 3.2 innings with seven hits allowed, two walks and seven strikeouts. Tanner Rainey took the mound from 1st base in the 9th to nail down his second save of the young season with a strikeout and two ground ball outs.

At the plate, the Badger actually out hit the Tigers 13 to 10 as five Badgers had multiple hits led by Webb's 3-for-4 day. Stevens had two hits with four RBIs while 3rd baseman William Floros had two hits including a double.

The Tigers were paced by Bush who was a home run shy of the cycle with a 3-for-4, 3-RBI day that included a double in the 1st inning, a single in the 3rd inning and a triple in the 5th inning. In fact, his final at-bat of the day in the 8th inning actually made it to the warning track in left to miss the cycle by only a few feet.

Spring Hill (5-4) will next visit arch-rivals the University of Mobile Rams (9-4) on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Mike Jacobs Field.
