Badgers sweep 3-game series from Kentucky State
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team opened the program's first season in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) this weekend with a three-game sweep of the Kentucky State University (KSU) Thorobrettes by the scores of 8-0, 3-2 and 9-1 at Murray Field.

It took the Badgers just five innings to earn their first SIAC victory in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader as the home team took an 8-0 "Mercy Rule" victory behind the effort of starting junior pitcher Caroline Sagrera's 6th career no-hitter. Sagrera allowed only one walk with 11 strikeouts in 70 total pitches. Shortstop Shea Blanchard and designated hitter Mary Glass each recorded two doubles in the game as Glass also notched three RBIs.

In the second contest, freshman Kimberly Small (1-1) picked up her first collegiate win, but the Badgers had to rally in the bottom of the 7th inning to take a 3-2 victory when with two outs a ground ball to the infield was not caught by the KSU 1st baseman allowing two unearned runs to cross the plate. Small gave up just two hits in the complete game effort with a walk and seven strikeouts.

The final game on Sunday saw Sagrera (4-1) take the rubber and last four innings with two hits allowed with two walks and five strikeouts before yielding to junior Sarah Bolotte for the final two innings. Bolotte closed the day giving up two hits with no walks and two strikeouts.

Glass collected three more hits including another double and three RBIs as centerfielder Jenna Charnock, right fielder Randi DeArmitt, 1st baseman Elise deBruler and left fielder Lauren Stewart all tallied two hits in the game.

Spring Hill (5-2) travels to Pensacola on Wednesday to take on the University of West Florida Lady Argonauts in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
