Box Score 2 The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team swept both ends of a non-conference doubleheader from the Claflin University Panthers by the scores of 9-3 and 11-1 on Saturday afternoon at historic Stan Galle Field.
The afternoon got off to a rocky start in the 1st inning of Game 1 when Panther 3rd baseman Rashad Bivens crushed a 1-out, 2-run homer out of left field, but the Badgers responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame off an RBI-single between shortstop and 3rd base by catcher
Alex Jones and a wild pitch that brought in right fielder
Taylor Eads.
SHC scored three more times in the 2nd inning when 3rd baseman
William Floros brought in a run with a single and was then later brought around by a 2-run single to left by Jones.
Badger starter
Jackson Howard (2-0) was the winner in six innings and allowed just four hits and a walk while registering eight strikeouts. Darius Boykins (0-1) took the loss for Claflin going six innings and giving up 12 hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
Game 2 saw the teams go scoreless through two innings, but SHC broke on top 1-0 when Floros launched a leadoff home run off the side of the Badger field house in right field. Catcher
Roy Moulder would later scamper home on a wild pitch in the same frame to make it a 2-0 Badger lead.
SHC exploded for four unearned runs in the 5th inning following a 2-out infield error and then tacked on five more runs in the 6th inning.
Stephen Douglas (1-1) earned the win in six innings with five hits allowed, two walks and seven strikeouts while Wendell Ferguson (0-1) was saddled with the loss in 4.2 innings with six hits, three walks and five strikeouts.
At the plate, SHC was paced by Floros with four hits and two RBI, Eads with four hits including a double and an RBI and Jones who enjoyed a 4-for-4 and five-RBI performance in the opening game. Left fielder

Thomas Smith each collected a pair of hits.
Spring Hill (4-3) will host Claflin (1-8) again on Sunday after noon at 2 p.m. in a single game at Stan Galle Field.
