Spring Hill scuttles No. 35 Argonauts in 5-1 upset
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) baseball team defeated the 35th-ranked University of West Florida Argonauts at historic Stan Galle Field on Wednesday evening by a score of 5-1 after junior 3rd baseman William Floros broke open a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the 6th inning with a two-out Grand Slam to right-centerfield.

Argonauts (5-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning when 2nd baseman Nic Strasser led off the frame with a triple to deep centerfield and scampered home via a wild pitch two batters later.

The Badgers answered back in the 5th inning as shortstop Thomas Smith placed a leadoff double just over the 3rd base bag. Senior right fielder Taylor Eads then brought him home with a solid single to left with two outs.

UWF loaded the bases with two outs in the 9th inning, but junior stopper Johnathan Billings put out the fire with a called third strike on a full count pitch to Argonaut centerfielder Ledarious Clark.

Junior starter Wesley Parrish (1-0) was the winner in six innings of work and allowed just three hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Billings earned his second save of the year in three innings of relief with two hits, four walks and four strikeouts.

Mike Flaherty (0-1) took the loss for UWF in 2/3 of an inning, giving up three hits and a walk with no strikeouts. Argo starter Reed Bright lasted five innings, surrendering four hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

On offense, Eads contributed a 3-for-3 performance for the Badgers while Strasser and left fielder Nick Kerkmann each had two hits for the visitors from Pensacola.

Spring Hill (2-3) will next host non-conference foe the Claflin University Panthers (1-5) in a doubleheader at Stan Galle Field on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
