Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team lost a 65-45 non-conference decision to the Southern University in New Orleans (SUNO) Lady Knights at The Castle on Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Knights (4-7) grabbed a quick 6-2 lead and built out as much as a 10-point advantage before heading into the halftime locker rooms with a 32-25 lead. Spring Hill struggled to a 33.3% (8-24) shooting performance in the first half and turned the ball over 15 times while SUNO lost 10 fumbles and won the rebounding battle 25-18.
SUNO built a 48-31 lead after three quarters of play as turnovers continued to plague the Badger offense throughout the second half.
Alishia DraytonLewis paced Spring Hill with nine points and Rayvin Miller of SUNO put a game-high 19 points in the baskets aided by 10 points from Jophiea Irvin and 13 points with 10 assists from Micah Brooks. Ashair Shakir of SUNO was the leading rebounder with 12 boards.
Spring Hill shot 32.1% (17-53) from the floor including 20% (1-5) from 3-point range while SUNO boasted a 37.7% (26-69) shooting percentage with a 12.5% (2-16) effort from 3-point land. The Badgers out-rebounded SUNO 44-42, but lost 31 turnovers in the face of 15 steals by the Lady Knights. SHC earned eight steals while SUNO lost 15 total turnovers.
The Badgers (3-8, 1-1 SIAC West) will now travel to Augusta, Ga., for a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) game at the Paine College Lady Lions (2-9, 1-2 SIAC East) at 5:30 p.m. (Eastern) on Monday.
