Badger women take 75-61 win over SUNO
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team earned a 75-61 decision over non-conference opponent the Southern University in New Orleans (SUNO) Lady Knights at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Wednesday evening.

The Lady Knights (2-7) held a 10-7 lead with two minutes left to play in the 1st period, but the Badgers closed out the period with a 7-0 run sparked by a 3-point bucket by senior guard Natalie Harper that put them ahead 14-10 and they never looked back. SHC outscored SUNO 26-18 in the 2nd period to maintain a 40-28 lead at the intermission.

The 3rd period was all Spring Hill with the Badgers dominating 23-11 to build a 63-39 lead heading to the final quarter of play where SHC surged to as much as a 25-point lead at 67-42 with 6:41 to play.

Junior forward Camry Johnson dropped in 14 points with a game-high and Badger season-high 17 rebounds as junior center Leah Washington put 11 points in the baskets with seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Jennifer Clark added eight points with six assists and three steals.

As a team, SHC shot 52.6% (30-57) from the floor and 33.3% (2-6) from 3-point land. The Badgers dominated the boards by a 50-24 margin, but lost 27 turnovers to 15 SUNO steals that turned into 21 points for the Lady Knights on the other end.

SUNO struggled to a 38.7% (24-62) result from the field and 30.8% (4-13) from long distance as well as 34.6% (9-26) from the charity stripe. The Lady Knights lost 14 turnovers versus nine Badger steals that SHC cashed in for 13 points. Rayvin Miller scored 22 points while Micah Brooks added 11 and Taiya Jackson chipped in 10 more points.

The Badgers (3-6) will next play at non-conference foe and Jesuit rival the Loyola University (La.) Wolf Pack at The Den in New Orleans, La., beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday. Since 2001, SHC is 6-24 versus the Wolf Pack (6-3) including a 65-48 loss in Mobile in 2014 and a current 21-game losing skid. The Badger women have not tasted victory over the Wolf Pack since a 70-65 decision in January 2005 in Mobile.
