Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's soccer team opened play in the annual Classic on The Hill with a 3-2 non-conference home loss to the Southern Wesleyan University (SWU) Warriors on Friday morning at Library Field.
Spring Hill opened the scoring in just the 3rd minute of play when a right-to-left entry pass across the face of the goal by sophomore forward
Ibrahima Ndaw found redshirt freshman
Viktor Kvarnlof alone in front of the net for a toe-poke goal from three yards out.
The Warriors (10-5-2) answered back in the 12th minute when Christian Taylor scored on a one-on-one opportunity off a lovely 20-yard entry pass on the run by Micheal Herszenhout on the right side.
In the second half, Kvarnlof scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season when his bullet was off the fingertips of the SWU keeper and into the upper right corner with an assist by freshman
Jack LaForge of New Orleans, La., in the 55th minute. SWU would rally once more and tally the game-tying goal in the 61st minute as the Taylor-Herszenhout duo struck again this time with another one-on-one score on the left side from 10-yards out.
Herszenhout rang up the game-winner in the 64th minute with a blast from 12 yards out and in the middle of the box after an entry pass from right side through traffic by Sebastian Castro.
"It was a very good effort by our team once again," said SHC head coach
Steve Wieczorek following the game. "Viktor took his goals very well today and it was another fine performance by Files in the net."
Badger senior goalkeeper
Jacob Files (1-4) made seven saves versus 16 shots and five corner kicks by the Warriors while Ruben Rodriguez picked up three saves against eight shots and five corners by the Badgers.
The Badgers (3-14) will close out the 2015 season versus the Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish (14-1-1) on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Library Field. Before the game, the Badger players will honor their senior class teammates with the annual Senior Day ceremony.
