Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) volleyball team closed its 2015 season with a 3-1 (21-25, 24-26, 25-22, 19-25) non-conference road loss to the University of Mobile Lady Rams on Tuesday night at H. Austill Pharr Gymnasium.
The Lady Rams (26-5) jumped out to an early 7-1 and 9-2 advantage in the first set before the Badgers righted their ship and fought back to make it a 14-12 deficit. SHC could pull no closer, however, as Mobile rebuilt a 24-16 cushion and fended off a late rally by SHC in the 25-21 victory.
The second set saw the Badgers rally from an 18-14 hole to take a late 24-22 lead only to have Mobile run off the final four points of the set for a 26-24 come-from-behind win.
In Set Number 3, Spring Hill took an 11-7 lead and twice witnessed Mobile cut it to just a 1-point margin at 17-16 and 23-22, but both times the Badgers maintained their cool for a 25-22 win to force a fourth set.
SHC took 2-0 lead in the final set, but fell behind 6-11 following a crucial 4-0 run by the Lady Rams. The Badgers would get no closer than four points as Mobile sewed up the match in a 25-19 win.
"I thought we played really, really hard, but obviously we didn't have our best match of the year," commented SHC head coach
Peggy Martin following the contest. "They (Mobile) are a good squad and they competed well. I am really very proud of our effort."
