Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's soccer team accepted a 2-0 non-conference home loss to the Concordia College (Ala.) Hornets on Friday afternoon at Library Field.
The Hornets (8-4) scored in the 11th minute of play when Stanley Benjamin's shot from the left side of the box was saved by Badger goalkeeper
Will Carpenter (2-8) of Spanish Fort, Ala., but the deflection went directly to Alaye Imira standing just outside the right post and he easily poked in the clean-up goal.
Concordia provided the back-breaker in the 82nd minute when Benjamin teamed with Jean Pierre Fleury. Benjamin took advantage of a 2-on-1 situation inside the box by deftly dribbling in close and passing the ball right-to-left to Fleury who scored from eight yards out.
Carpenter made three saves versus nine shots and four corner kicks by the Hornets while Concordia's Thoby Wendy made seven saves against 14 shots and 10 Badger corners.
"Give Concordia all the credit," said SHC head coach
Steve Wieczorek. "They came down here on the road and won and that's a difficult thing to do. I thought we played with more energy in the second half and created some good opportunities to score, but didn't convert on them. You just have to give credit where credit is due and Concordia played well today."
The Badgers (2-8, 0-4 GSC) will next travel to Livingston on Friday to face Gulf South Conference (GSC) foe the University of West Alabama Tigers (5-4-1, 4-0 GSC) at Tiger Stadium beginning at 7:30 p.m.
