SHC ladies snap winless skid with win over Delta State, 3-2
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team broke a six-match winless streak with a 3-2 Gulf South Conference (GSC) home victory over the Delta State University (DSU) Lady Statesmen at Library Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Statesmen (3-12-1, 0-11 GSC) scored first in the 11th minute of play when Camila Segura Sevilla struck from 20 yards out on the left side with a lovely right-to-left crossing shot into the top left corner of the goal after accepting a pass from Tais Cotta.

SHC answered back in the 33rd minute with sophomore Madison Camet's fourth tally of the season that came from 10 yards out on the right side with an assist from redshirt freshman Kaelin Dull to send the game into the half at 1-1.

Sophomore Beryl Newchurch then provided the Badgers' second and third goals of the day in the 49th and 69th minutes. She first cleaned up a shot by junior Brittany McNair that came off the crossbar for a score from 12 yards out and then found pay dirt again with an unassisted blast over the keeper's head from straight on and 25 yards out.

DSU made the Badgers sweat over the final 10 minutes as Sevilla tallied a second goal in the 86th minute and the Lady Statesmen forced three more scoring opportunities that the Badger defense had to snuff out.

"Our women showed great resolve in both the equalizer before halftime and finishing the game," said SHC interim head coach Michael Patrick. "It was a good team win and I'm proud of their efforts on the pitch today. We'll enjoy a day off tomorrow before we prepare on a short week for our next opponent."

Senior Badger goalkeeper Maggie Dalessio (2-10-3) collected three saves versus 14 shots and four corner kicks by DSU while Emily Oldacre of the visitors made four saves against 18 shots by SHC with two corner opportunities.

The Badgers (2-10-3, 2-9-1 GSC) will face non-conference opponent the University of Tampa Spartans (9-3-3) on Thursday at 3 p.m. on Library Field.
