Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team earned a 3-0 Gulf South Conference home victory over the Shorter University Lady Hawks on Friday afternoon at Library Field for their first win of the 2015 campaign.
SHC struck first in the 6th minute of play when sophomore midfielder
Beryl Newchurch found junior forward
Darby Rasch on the right sideline. Rasch then ripped a beautiful right-to-left entry pass to the feet of sophomore
Madison Camet who blasted a shot just inside the right post from 15 yards out.
Rasch added a second assist to her totals in the 10th minute with a similar pass from the right side to senior
Hannah Michael who found space at the top of the goal from just outside the top of the box.
Later, Rasch completed the hat trick with a score of her own from eight yards out on the left side after a nifty passing combination by sophomores
Francesca Talotta and
Caroline Torrens in the 40th minute.
The Lady Hawks (4-5, 1-3 GSC) were paced by Jen Rogers who took six shots with three being on-goal.
Senior Badger goalkeeper
Maggie Dalessio (1-5-2) of St. Petersburg, Fla., picked up her third shutout of the season by making seven saves against 18 shots and five corner kicks by the Lady Hawks while SHC chased starting Shorter keeper Alden Powell after just over 17 minutes in goal. Powell and reliever Haley Lademann faced 16 Badger shots and three corners in total.
"The Badger women played some amazing soccer today," said SHC interim head coach
Michael Patrick. "They moved the ball around the pitch nicely and their efforts were rewarded with three quality goals. I was especially proud of their resiliency in the second half and their ability to secure the shutout. It was a great team win today!"
The Badgers (1-5-2, 1-4 GSC) remain at home on Sunday with a conference contest against the Lee University Lady Flames (3-3-2, 2-1 GSC) at Library Field on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Badgers are 0-5 versus Lee since 2004, including a 4-0 loss in Cleveland, Tenn., last season.
