Badgers balance Blazers, 2-2
Box Score MOBILE, Ala. – After 110 minutes of playing time, the Spring Hill College (SHC) women's soccer team fought to a 2-2 Gulf South Conference (GSC) home tie with the Valdosta State University (VSU) Blazers on Sunday afternoon at Library Field.

The Blazers (3-7-2, 2-4-1 GSC) scored first in the 43rd minute when Ashley Miller scored from less than 10 yards out in the center of the box off a nicely placed entry pass from the right side by Sheby Jennings.

Junior Lillian DeSousa out of Mary G. Montgomery in Mobile knotted the score at 1-1 in the 57th minute as a shot by sophomore Francesca Talotta from Faith Academy in Mobile was initially blocked, but the ball found its way to DeSousa who drove in the goal.

Valdosta's Madison Cutts put the Blazers back on top in the 72nd minute when a VSU corner kick was headed out by Jade Reynolds and then struck home from the top of the box by Cutts who just skimmed the ball off the bottom of the crossbar.

Not to be out done, the Badgers once again tied the score in the 80th minute with junior Darby Rasch of Madison, Ala., rolling an excellent cross in front of the goal from the left side that sophomore Caroline Torrens of Pace, Fla., poked past the keeper with a lovely sliding effort on the right side.

On defense, Spring Hill senior goalkeeper Maggie Dalessio (1-7-3) of St. Petersburg, Fla., made six saves versus 21 shots and two corner kicks from Valdosta State while her counterpart for the Blazers McCall Gardner collected five saves against 18 shots and six corners by Spring Hill.

"It was an exciting match to watch and to be a part of today," said SHC interim head coach Michael Patrick after the game. "I thought that we showed tremendous heart in today's match battling Valdosta State, last year's conference champions, to a 2-2 draw. Our women showed great resolve coming from behind twice in this match to force overtime and I'm extremely proud of their efforts on the pitch today."

The Badgers (1-7-3, 1-6-1 GSC) travel to Livingston on Friday to face the conference-leading University of West Alabama Tigers (8-3, 6-1 GSC) at Tiger Stadium in a 5 p.m. kickoff.
