Box Score AMERICUS, Ga. –The Spring Hill College women's soccer team earned its first NCAA Division II victory with a 5-1 decision at the Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) Hurricanes on Sunday afternoon at Hurricane Field.
SHC opened the scoring when former South Alabama Lady Jag sophomore
Maha Maarouf out of Baker High School in Mobile punched in a goal off an assist by junior
Courtney Harlan of Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in the 15th minute. Freshman
Francesca Talotta from Faith Academy in Mobile used another Harlan assist in 26th minute to make it a 2-0 Badger advantage and a header goal by junior
Hannah Michael from New Orleans, La., in the 29th minute off a brilliant passing series by Talotta and freshman
Caroline Torrens of Pace, Fla., put the Hurricanes (0-2) down by a 3-0 mark.
GSW cut it to 3-1 in the 31st minutes when Colleen Livings was assisted by a Sholeh Rezaee corner kick.
In the 39th minute, sophomore
Lillian DeSousa from Mary G. Montgomery High School in Mobile returned the favor by accepting a corner kick from junior
Aedan Stranahan of Eureka, Calif., and converting to make it a 4-1 Badger advantage at the intermission.
Harlan closed out the day's scoring with an unassisted goal in the 67th minute as the Badger lead grew to a commanding 5-1 bulge.
In total, SHC out-shot GSW by a dominating 34-6 tally with 8 Badger corner kicks to just two Hurricane kicks from the corner. Senior
Abby Massengale of New Orleans picked up the victory in goal with three saves while Emily Jones and Chelsee Wright combined for 10 GSW saves.
Spring Hill (1-1) will next host NAIA rivals the Belhaven University Lady Blazers (2-1) on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Library Field.
