Women's Soccer opens NCAA era with 5-0 loss at Saint Leo
Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Spring Hill College women's soccer team played its first regular-season match as a member of NCAA Division II on Thursday evening at Saint Leo University and took a 5-0 loss to the Lions at Saint Leo Soccer Field.

Following an hour-and-a-half weather delay before the start of the match, Saint Leo (1-0) took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd minute of play off a goal by Arielle Kabangu with an assist by Katie Waddell. Victoria Covas made it a 2-0 Lion lead in the 32nd minute off a corner kick and Waddell poked in a third goal just six minutes later off assist by Lindsay Perkins.

Just 37 seconds before the intermission, Saint Leo posted a fourth goal when Perkins accepted an assist by Kabangu. Waddell then tacked on a fifth goal in the 58th minute from an assist by Kabangu.

SHC starting keeper junior Maggie Dalessio of St. Petersburg, Fla., played the first half with seven saves against 13 shots by Saint Leo while senior Abby Massengale started the second half and tallied five saves against 12 shots.

Abby Evans of the Lions made one save against two shots by SHC as Saint Leo took six corner kick attempts and the badgers had none.

Spring Hill (0-1) next visits the Georgia Southwestern State University Hurricanes (0-0) at 12 p.m. at the GSW Soccer Field on Sunday in Americus, Ga.
