Men's Soccer rides out Hurricanes for 3-1 victory
Box Score The Spring Hill College men's soccer team completed the 2014 season on Sunday afternoon by defeating the Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) Hurricanes in a 3-1 non-conference decision at Library Field.

Spring Hill took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute when senior Salvador Sanchis of Miami, Fla., found the back of the net with a header from five yards out after fellow senior Mario Escalante of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, found him with a left-to-right pass from the top of the box.

The Badgers put the Hurricanes (4-11-2) into a 2-0 hole just three minutes later when senior Tyler Hartlage's shot was blocked by a GSW defender only to be cleaned up by junior Andrew McInnis of Mandeville, La., who skipped the ball across the face of the goal into the bottom left corner.

In the second half, the Hurricanes answered back with a score in the 66th minute when a shot attempt by Silvio Poly went wide but was captured on the far side by Cesar Espinoza who benefited from the miscue when SHC senior goalkeeper Patrick Danner could not scamper back in time to stop his shot from sliding inside the right post.

Danner would redeem himself with two late saves as it appeared the momentum had shifted to the visitors, but freshman Matthew Lieshout of Auckland, New Zealand, tacked on an insurance goal for SHC in the 77th minute after senior Dylan Gardner of Waterloo, Ill., lifted a beautiful entry pass to within three yards of the face of the goal from 20 yards out on the left side.

Danner (3-6) picked up the victory in his final game in purple with four saves against nine shots and three corner kicks by the Hurricanes while his GSW counterpart Joshua Swift was tagged with the loss despite three saves against 15 Badger shots and three corner attempts.

Spring Hill finished the 2014 season with a 4-11 overall mark in their first season as a member of NCAA Division II including a 2-7 record in the Gulf South Conference (GSC).
