Box Score The Spring Hill College women's soccer team wrapped up its 2014 schedule with a 4-2 victory over the Middle Georgia State University Knights in a non-conference decision at Library Field on Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Spring Hill grabbed a 1-0 lead on the Knights (2-10-3) when freshman
Becca Roth of O'Fallon, Mo., scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from fellow freshman
Madison Camet of Kenner, La., in the 58th minute.
Just 30 seconds later, however, MGS answered back with a strike at the other end when Hannah Gullickson scored on a right-to-left crossing shot that found the lower left corner of the goal. Marissa Hatem then put the Knights up 2-1 in the 66th minute after her shot from 18 yards out caromed off the right post and into the net.
The Badgers would not go away as senior
Erin Claxton of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, accepted a pass from junior
Courtney Harlan of Mobile and lifted a perfectly placed arcing shot from 25 yards out over the MGS keeper and into the goal to tie the game at 2-2 in the 74th minute.
Junior
Sidi Genus of Great Bay, Jamaica, got the game-winner in the 84th minute when Claxton took a free kick and found Genus who ripped the ball left-to-right past the diving Knight keeper. Spring Hill then added an insurance goal off the foot of Camet in the 85th minute when Harlan and Genus executed a brilliant right-to-left passing combination at the top of the box to find Camet for the score.
Senior Badger goalkeeper
Abby Massengale (3-2-2) of New Orleans, La., earned the win in her final appearance in purple with two saves against three shots by the Knights while Brooke Best took the loss in 13 minutes of relief with two saves. GMS starter Curry Holloway made eight saves as the visiting pair faced a total of 30 Spring Hill shots and 11 corner kicks.
Spring Hill finished the year with a 4-9-3 overall record that included a 1-8-3 mark as a first-year member of the Gulf States Conference (GSC).
