Box Score MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College volleyball team wrapped up the 2014 season against the Dillard University Lady Bleu Devils and won a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-17) verdict at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Thursday night.
The Badgers used a 9-2 run early in the first set to put Dillard (10-10) in a 14-6 hole after the Lady Bleu Devils had closed to within 6-4 despite opening the match down 4-1. Spring Hill closed the set on a 5-2 burst to win 25-15.
Set Number Two saw SHC grab a quick 11-4 advantage in route to a decisive 25-13 victory.
The evening's final set featured two rallies by Dillard as they fought back from a 4-1 deficit to tie the score at 6-6 and later rebound from a 12-6 hole to pull within 14-12. Spring Hill's quickness proved too much for the visitors from New Orleans over the long run, however, as the Badgers closed the match with a 25-17 victory. Appropriately, the final point of the season was scored on a shared block by seniors
Sami Hantak of St. Louis, Mo., and
Megan Haber of Lillian, Ala.
Haber scored 10 kills with three block assists to lead all scorers with 11.5 points. Freshman setter
Marie Rooks of Tallahassee, Fla., handed out 28 assists and senior libero
Sami Maurer of St. Louis roped in 14 digs with 16 receptions. Hantak put down three kills with two block assists.
As a team, the Badgers built a .281 attack percentage (40-13-96) with five service aces, 46 digs and six team blocks.
Dillard's Astasia Williams collected 10 assists and Demetria Horton scooped in 11 digs with 19 receptions. Spring Hill held Dillard to a .010 attack percentage (25-24-99) with one service ace, 34 digs and 6.5 team blocks.
Spring Hill closed out its season with a 26-7 record including a perfect 17-0 mark in their first season as a member of NCAA Division II and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).
