Box Score The Spring Hill College men's soccer team suffered a 5-2 home conference loss to the University of West Alabama (UWA) Tigers on Friday afternoon at Library Field.
The Tigers (8-5, 5-2 GSC) scored first in the 4th minute when SHC starting goalkeeper senior
Patrick Danner of Tampa, Fla., got caught too far up in his box and was beat one-on-one by Vitor Gazza for a goal in the left corner.
The Badgers tied it up at 1-1 in the 19th minute as senior
Eric Schwing of Mandeville, La., scored with a blast from outside the box that slid past diving Tiger keeper Brad Louis.
In the 33rd minute, Gazza found pay dirt again when he took a long pass from Thibault Charmey up the center of the field and beat SHC replacement keeper junior
Jacob Files (1-3) from Clinton, Miss., with a skidding shot at the bottom of the net. The Tigers made it a 3-1 game in the 56th minute as Gazza teamed up with Brian Meadows on a nifty give-and-go play in the box that Meadows finished with a tally past Files.
The UWA advantage grew to 4-1 in the 69th minute when Matthew Pemberton cleaned up a deflected shot by Charmey from five yards out.
Badger freshman
Matthew Lieshout of Auckland, New Zealand put a second SHC score on the board when he accepted assists from junior
Andrew McInnis of Mandeville and senior
Esteban Angel of Guayaquil, Ecuador, in the 72nd minute.
A penalty kick goal by Charmey past SHC reserve keeper
Gabriel Lopez of Miami, Fla., completed the final score of 5-2 in favor of the visitors from Livingston.
The three Badger keepers faced 15 shots and one corner by the Tigers with five saves while Louis made two saves against 12 Badgers shots with four corner kicks.
