Late goal lifts Blazers past Badgers, 2-1
Box Score VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Spring Hill College women's soccer team accepted a 2-1 road loss to the Valdosta State University (VSU) Blazers in a Gulf South Conference (GSC) soccer contest on Sunday afternoon.

SHC junior goalkeeper Maggie Dalessio of Jacksonville, Fla., kept the Blazers (5-5-1, 5-1-1 GSC) scoreless through the 1st half, but surrendered a headed-in goal by Leanne Bishop off a corner kick by Margaret Stauffer in the 51st minute.

The Badgers answered right back in the 56th minute with a one-on-one breakaway goal scored by junior Courtney Harlan of Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School when she beat VSU keeper Olivia Mills with a left-to-right crossing shot that found the lower corner of the net.

VSU scored the winner off a set piece in the 86th minute when Shelby Jennings headed in a perfectly placed free kick entry pass from 30 yards out on the right side by Stauffer.

Dalessio (1-6) faced 13 shots and five corners with three saves for the Badgers while Mills made four saves for VSU against six shots and five corners.

Spring Hill (3-7-1, 1-6-1 GSC) will next host the University of West Alabama Tigers (9-2, 5-1 GSC) in a conference match on Friday beginning at 4 p.m. on Library Field.
