Wieczorek enters his seventh season on the Hill as the all-time winningest coach in program history. During his tenure, he has raised the profile of the program into one of the top teams in the South Region and National Top 25 contender.Â
The 2019 Badgers reached their second consecutive Gulf South Conference playoff while spending several weeks in the United Soccer Coaches National Top 25. Senior Alex Lipinski, the Badgers all-time leading scorer, was selected to the GSC All-Decade team for his efforts over his stellar career.Â
Wieczorek rewrote SHC men's soccer history in 2018 by earning a 17-2 overall record including a perfect 11-0 GSC mark in the regular season and winning a Championship Tournament title before bowing 4-1 at Barry University in the NCAA South Region Tournament in the team's first season of NCAA post-season eligibility. The Badgers placed five players on the 2018 GSC All-Conference team while junior forward Alex Lipinski was named to the United Soccer Coaches (USC) 1st team All-America Team. Lipinski was also an All-Conference 1st team selection in 2019 as a senior and a Google Cloud Academic All-America, 3rd team, selection in 2018, the same season that senior Tilman Schober was named the Google Cloud Academic All-America Player of the Year in NCAA Division II Men's Soccer.
In 2017, he led the Badgers to the program's then best season in its 27-year history with a 12-3 mark including 8-2 and a 2nd place finish in the Gulf South Conference (GSC) final regular season standings.
In the classroom, Wieczorek’s Badgers have been equally as dominant. In 2016, his men had the most Badger student-athletes appear on the Academic Honor Rolls of the respective conferences of the 16 SHC NCAA varsity teams. The Badgers have receive the USC Team Academic Award every year of his tenure.Â
Wieczorek has seven years of NCAA Division I coaching experience at Duquesne University, Siena College and OSU. At OSU, the Beavers enjoyed a historic year in 2014 as they advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament by securing the first ever NCAA tournament victory in program history. The OSU roster boasted the PAC12 Player of the Year, All-American, and Hermann Trophy semifinalist, Khiry Shelton, who was drafted #2 overall in the 2015 MLS Super Draft by NYC FC. Wieczorek also mentored 2015 MLS draft 3rd Round pick, Will Seymore, and the 2014 PAC12 Rookie of the Year and Freshman All-American, Timmy Mueller.
At Duquesne in 2013, Wieczorek was responsible for assisting the head coach in all aspects of the program, specifically coordinating student athlete recruitment. The Dukes won nine games and advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship Quarterfinals while posting their best overall record since 2009 and best conference record since 2006. Six players received A-10 postseason honors, including three selections to the league’s All-Rookie Team. The squad also was recognized for its work in the classroom with the NSCAA Team Academic Award.
Prior to arriving in Pittsburgh, Pa., Wieczorek spent five years at Siena in Loudonville, N.Y., serving the last two seasons as the Saints’ top assistant. During his tenure, the Saints enjoyed the best stretch of success in school history. They made four conference playoff appearances, set school records for conference single-season wins (7) and winning percentage (.857) while also securing the program's first-ever wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
At Siena, Wieczorek was responsible for extensive student-athlete recruiting. He mentored two Capital One Academic All-America Team members in Jannis Opalka and James Beeston who were the first Academic All-America selections in Siena school history. He also recruited two Siena College Male Rookies of the Year and two Lowe's Senior C.L.A.S.S. nominees. He mentored the first eight players to play professionally from Siena and helped to develop two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Offensive Players of the Year and a MAAC Rookie of the Year.
Wieczorek monitored the academic progress of the squad at Siena that ranked 12th for Team GPA in NCAA Division I during the 2012 season while also achieving consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Awards. In February 2013, he served as Interim Head Coach for the Saints.
A 2004 graduate of Fairfield University, Wieczorek was a four-year letterman at goalkeeper for the Stags and led the team to four MAAC Tournament appearances and two MAAC finals. Following graduation, he began his collegiate coaching career that fall at his alma mater as the goalkeepers coach.
From there, he accepted an assistant coach position at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut in 2006 where he helped the team reach the NCAA DII National Tournament, an NSCAA Top 25 ranking and the East Coast Conference final in 2007. While at Bridgeport, Wieczorek coached nine All-Conference and four NSCAA All-Region selections as well as the East Coast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
Wieczorek holds the NSCAA Premier Coaching Diploma, Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma and is currently working toward his UEFA B license. He earned his Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Fairfield University and his Ph.D. in Sport Management from Troy University.
