Badger Bats Stay Hot, Softball Completes Sweep of LeMoyne-Owen

The Spring Hill College softball team used a 12-run third inning to roll to a 16-0, five-inning victory at LeMoyne-Owen and complete the three-game sweep.

11 players recorded at least one hit, with six Badgers, Oscha Carter, Kayla Coley-Drayton, Natalee Curry, Meadow Villar, Bethany Ahrens, and McKenzie King, tallying two hits apiece. Carter, Curry, Jesslyn Gordon, and Destiny Pierce tied for the team lead with 2 RBI each, while Janci Aube paced the team with 3 runs scored.

Emma Curry and Aube combined to throw a no-hitter, with Curry striking out 7 across her three innings pitched and Aube striking out 3 to close out the final two innings.

The Badgers stranded a runner in scoring position in each of the first two innings, but they came through in the third inning in a big way. The first nine batters reached base, scoring 7 runs in the process. After a single and a pair of walks loaded the bases, Carter hit a 2 RBI single to put Spring Hill up 2-0. Another 2 RBI single by Gordon made it 4-0, then back-to-back-to-back RBI knocks by Ahrens, Pitts, and King had Spring Hill leading 7-0 before the first out of the inning.

Amanda Glowacki almost continued the hit parade, but the first baseman snagged a hard-hit line drive. Then Pierce, up for the second item in the inning, drove in two on a double to left field, then stole home to make it a 10-0 game. The Badgers added two more runs before the end of the inning to take a commanding 12-0 lead.

Glowacki came through in the fourth inning with an RBI single up the middle, followed by a run-scoring double by Coley-Drayton and a 2-RBI single by Natalee Curry to push the lead to 16-0. Aube moved in from center field to pitch in the fourth inning and shut down the Lady Magicians over the final two innings to finish off the victory.

The Badgers head to Mobile, Ala. on Tuesday to take on Montevallo. The first game of the doubleheader starts at 1 p.m.
