Badgers Split Final Day of Shoals Beach Bash
FLORENCE, Ala. - Spring Hill College's beach volleyball team split its two matches on the final day of the Shoals Beach Bash Saturday, as the Sandy Badgers swept Tusculum, 5-0, before losing a 3-2 match to Division I member Eastern Kentucky at the University of North Alabama Beach Volleyball Courts.

Against Tusculum (6-15), Spring Hill's No. 2 team of Alessandra Lane and Claire Hayes were first off the court, defeating Brynn Smith and Sylvia Liszewski, 21-15, 21-10. Then, the Sandy Badgers' No. 4 pair of Lillie Casey and Reagan Huff rallied to beat Jordyn Anderson and Solene Roussel, 15-21, 21-18, 15-12 to give Spring Hill a 2-0 lead in the match. It was the Sandy Badgers' No. 5 pair of Mia Johnson and Monica Vargo that picked up the clinching win for Spring Hill, beating Siri Aasgard and Ally Doty, 21-19, 21-16.

The Sandy Badgers' team of Marissa Peck and Jaylyne Bell knocked off Hannah Marsh and Sofia Vega Barrantes, 21-17, 21-15 in the No. 1 match, and Spring Hill's No. 3 team of Ashlyn Whiteside and Landry Tea finished out the sweep with a 21-16, 21-10 victory over Cooper George and Dasha Nikolaeva. The win snapped a seven-match losing streak for the Sandy Badgers and evened the all-time series against Tusculum, 2-2.

The extra match between Spring Hill's Felicity Evans and Megan Pulizzano and the Tusculum team of Jordan Kwalwasser and Ryann Gallagher was unfinished, with Evans and Pulizzano taking Set 1, 21-18, and Kwalwasser and Gallagher taking Set 2, 21-12.

In the match against Eastern Kentucky (12-7), Spring Hill (7-10) got wins from Peck and Bell at No. 1, as they beat Molly Shomock and Riley Cutler, 22-20, 21-13, and the No. 2 pairing of Lane and Hayes, who earned a 24-22, 22-24, 15-12 victory over Carlyn McAllister and Gabriella Armitage.

However, the Colonels won the other three matches to take home the close victory. Elpida Pitsigkoni and Amanda Floystad beat Whiteside and Tea, 21-13, 21-15 at No. 3, EKU's Zsa Zsa Ferguson and Sutton Sales got past Huff and Casey, 21-18, 21-13 in the No. 4 match, and Sami Deidesheimer and Arilyn Lee swept Johnson and Vargo, 21-7, 21-18 in the No. 5 pairing to lift EKU to the win.

In the extra match, EKU's pairing of Lily Kerbl and Maddie Knaak knocked off Evans and Pulizzano, 21-17, 21-14.

The Sandy Badgers are back in action Tuesday, when Spring Hill travels to the University of Mobile (13-6) to take on the Rams. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
