FLORENCE, Ala. - Spring Hill College's beach volleyball team took to the courts at the Shoals Beach Bash Friday, taking on a pair of Division I opponents in the form of hosts North Alabama and Austin Peay.

At the end of the day, the Sandy Badgers were on the losing end of both matches, dropping a 5-0 decision to North Alabama and losing 4-1 to Austin Peay at the UNA Beach Volleyball Courts.

While Spring Hill (6-9) was unable to notch a victory against North Alabama (10-9), the Sandy Badgers made the Lions earn every win. Two of the five matches went three sets, and Spring Hill's pair scored at least 18 points in a set in each of the other three losses

Jaylyne Bell and Marissa Peck lost to North Alabama's Paige Griner and Sarah Larkin Lewis, 21-13, 21-18 in the No. 1 match, Alessandra Lane and Claire Hayes fell, 23-21, 21-15 to North Alabama's Jennah Atchley and Selma Robinson at No. 2, and Lucy Wedding and Hailey Benesz held off Spring Hill's Ashlyn Whiteside and Landry Tea, 21-14, 18-21, 15-8 at No. 3.

The Sandy Badgers' No. 4 team of Lillie Casey and Reagan Huff lost, 21-15, 21-19 to Brooke Bolden and Gabby Harnden, Mia Johnson and Megan Pulizzano, Spring Hill's No. 5 team, lost 21-16, 19-21, 15-8 to North Alabama's Karsyn Griffin and Abby Robertson, and in the extra match, North Alabama's Kiana Adamson and Amelia Tomlinson beat Spring Hill's Felicity Evans and Ella Faliveno, 21-9, 21-15.

Against Austin Peay (10-12), Spring Hill's No. 3 team of Tea and Whiteside gave the Sandy Badgers their lone victory, knocking off Emma Loiars and Cami Missig, 21-15, 16-21, 15-11. Spring Hill gave the Governors trouble at No. 2 as well, as Peck and Hayes fought hard before falling, 21-19, 22-24, 16-14 to Austin Peay's Bailey Hope and Ashley Boswell.

In other matches, Bell and Lane lost, 21-9, 21-7 to Isabella Russell and Grace Austin at No. 1, Austin Peay's Jordyn Beneteau and Addi Hultquist beat Casey and Huff, 21-12, 21-16 at No. 4, and in the No. 5 match, Sage Raby and Emily Freel of Austin Peay got past Johnson and Pulizzano, 25-23, 21-12.

The Sandy Badgers are back in action Saturday, as Spring Hill takes on Tusculum at 8 a.m. before finishing tournament play against Eastern Kentucky at 2 p.m. The Tusculum match will be Spring Hill's first non-Division I opponent in the Sandy Badgers' last eight matches.
