HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Spring Hill College's beach volleyball team opened play at the Spring Break Slam, hosted by the University of Southern Mississippi, on Friday, taking on a pair of Division I foes in Southern Miss and Louisiana-Monroe at the Southern Miss Beach Volleyball Complex.

When the dust had settled, the Sandy Badgers (6-5) had lost both matches, falling 5-0 to Southern Miss and 3-2 to Lousiana-Monroe. 

Spring Hill opened the day against Southern Mississippi and the Golden Eagles (4-14) won all five matches in straight sets. For the Sandy Badgers, Jaylyne Bell and Ashlyn Whiteside lost, 21-15, 21-16 at No. 1, Claire Hayes and Marissa Peck fell, 21-13, 21-15, and in the No. 3 match, Spring Hill's team of Landry Tea and Alessandra Lane lost, 21-17, 21-10. At No. 4, Lillie Casey and Reagan Huff dropped a 21-12, 21-14 decision, Mia Johnson and Megan Pulizzano lost 21-10, 21-15 at No. 5, and in the extra match, Spring Hill's duo of Felicity Evans and Isabella Granados fell, 21-18, 21-15.

The Louisiana-Monroe match was tightly contested, with two matches going three sets and two other matches requiring extra points to decide sets. Spring Hill (6-5) got wins from Hayes and Peck at No. 2, as they won 21-17, 22-20 over Paige Ingersoll and Izabela Zukowska, and the No. 4 pairing of Casey and Huff, who battled back to beat Brooke Bankston and Maddie Peterson, 25-27, 21-19, 15-9. Bell and Whiteside lost 22-20, 21-19 in the No. 1 match, Tea and Lane fell, 21-16, 21-17 at No. 3 and Johnson and Pulizzano won the first set before losing 18-21, 22-20, 15-9 at No. 5. The extra match featured a split team of Ava Sondrup from ULM (4-9) and Evans from Spring Hill, who teamed up to beat the Sandy Badgers' pair of Monica Vargo and Ella Faliveno, 21-18, 21-14. 

The Sandy Badgers will finish play at the Spring Break Slam on Saturday, taking on ULM at 9 a.m. and Southern Miss at 1:30 p.m.
