The Spring Hill College softball team completed the three-game series sweep of Miles College, winning the Saturday matinee by a score of 7-3.
Janci Aube's bat stayed hot as the Badgers' leadoff hitter went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, two runs scored, and four RBI.
Meadow Villar had her second home run of the series, her lone hit on a 1-for-4 day.
Amanda Glowacki, in her return to the lineup after a one-week absence, posted a 1-for-2 day including an RBI double.
The Badgers got on the board first, with Glowacki's two-out, RBI-double making it 1-0 after two innings of play.
McKenzie King, after being hit by a pitch earlier in the inning, came all away around from first base on Glowacki's double to left to score the game's opening run.
Outside of the early Spring Hill run, it was a pitcher's duel with few baserunners for either team through the game's first four innings. But in the top of the fifth inning, the Badgers opened it up. Back-to-back walks to start the inning, one from Glowacki and the next from
Oscha Carter, put runners on first and second with Aube up to the plate. The senior crushed a three-run shot over the fence to make it a 4-0 game in favor of Spring Hill.
Miles manufactured a run during a two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth, but the Badgers still led 4-1 heading into the seventh inning.
Spring Hill would tack on three insurance runs in the top of the seventh to help out pitcher,
Emma Curry. Carter led-off the inning with a double and Aube followed with a double of her own to bring Carter in and make it 5-1. Then after a couple of outs advanced Aube to third base, Villar sent the ball over the fence and pushed the Badger advantage to 7-1.
Curry ran into her first real trouble of the day in the bottom of the seventh as a lead-off walk, a single, and some aggressive baserunning had her dealing with Golden Bears on both second and third with no one out. She surrendered two runs in the inning, but after Miles cut it to 7-3, she forced a fly out and fittingly ended the game on a strikeout to seal the Spring Hill sweep.
The Badgers head to Montgomery, Ala. For a mid-week doubleheader against Auburn Montgomery on Wednesday, March 4th. The first of the two games are set to begin at 2 p.m.
