Legendary SHC Golf Coach Steve Hodges Announces Retirement
MOBILE, Ala. – After 29 years of leading the Spring Hill College men's golf team, head coach Steve Hodges has announced his retirement.

Hodges, the legendary SHC golf coach, became the head coach of the men's golf team at SHC in 1996. An A-12 member of the PGA of America elected in 1995, Hodges has led Spring Hill to nine NAIA National Championship appearances and four Top 10 finishes with four Region XIII Championships.

In 1996, he mentored the Men's Individual NAIA National Champion, Keith Hoard. From 1995 through 2003, Hodges coached 12 NAIA All-Americans.

From 2005 through 2012, Hodges also served as head coach of the SHC women's golf team and resumed the reins of that team in September 2015. Hodges served as the President of the NAIA Men's Golf Coaches Association in 2002 and was named NAIA Region XIII Coach of the Year four times.

In the program's Division-II era, Hodges has developed 26 all-conference selections across both the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and Gulf South Conference. He coached the 2016-17 SIAC Golfer of the Year, Jesse Redman, and two SIAC Freshmen of the Year, Nicholas Couchard and Kevin Kelsey. He led the men's squad to three SIAC team championship titles, an individual championship and three NCAA tournament appearances.

"Coach Hodges retires as one of the true legends here in Spring Hill College Athletic History. His dedication over the last almost 30 years to the student-athletes and the college has been incredible," Athletic Director Joe Niland said. "The championship teams and number of other accolades pales to what he has poured into them as individuals. He has been a true man for others in the Jesuit tradition."
