FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Spring Hill College softball team were in a defensive battle with Kentucky State and split Saturday's SIAC doubleheader at State Stadium.
Spring Hill 3, Kentucky State 1
Leighanna Turk (W: 7-7); Lisuanet Flores (L: 2-4)
Spring Hill (22-18, 17-4 SIAC) battled with Kentucky State (11-19, 9-10 SIAC) in a low-scoring pitcher's duel.
Taylor Pittman led the team, going 2-for-3, including a home run that gave the Badgers the lead.
In the sixth, Natalee Curry and Abigail Christ came home and secured the win after an error extended the Badgers' lead to 3-0.
Leighanna Turk (7-7) pitched her sixth complete game of the season, striking out six in the win over the Thorobreds.
Kentucky State 2, Spring Hill 0
Kayla West (W: 2-5); Emma Curry (L: 8-6)
In the second game, it was more of the same, with only seven hits combined between the teams.
Offensively, Curry, McKenzie King and Jesslyn Gordon each recorded a hit apiece.
Emma Curry (8-6) threw her seventh complete game, striking out five batters in the effort.
