Fillmore Earns First Win as SHC Head Coach Against #4 Lenoir-Rhyne

GULF SHORES, Ala. -  The Spring Hill College softball team rounded out the second day of competition at the Gulf Shores Invitational with an upset win against No.4 Lenoir-Rhyne and a loss to No. 25 Central Oklahoma. The win marked the first under Head Coach Hannah Fillmore.
 
The day started out with a 9-1 loss against the No. 25 Central Oklahoma Bronchos (2-0, 0-0 MIAA).
 
Spring Hill (1-2, 0-0 SIAC) took the lead in the top of the 2nd inning with two walks by Taylor Pittman and Kaylin Fincher which eventually led to an RBI from McKenzie King, who drove Pittman in. The Bronchos took a 2-1lead in the bottom of the 2nd.
 
Jena Pacheco also ended up in the hit column with a single in the top of the 5th. The Bronchos expanded their lead in the bottom of the 5th with five runs on seven hits.
 
Emma Curry tossed a complete game in her first start of the season and struck out two batters.
 
The Badgers fought back in the second game of the day against No. 4 Lenoir-Rhyne (0-3, 0-0 SAC). Jesslyn Gordon batted in the game-winner in the bottom of the sixth, giving Spring Hill the 6-5 edge over the Bears.
 
Lenoir-Rhyne got off to a hot start in the 1st, scoring four runs on five hits. Spring Hill didn't let the Bears jump out that easy with a quick answer in the same inning.
 
Gordon hit a two-out double to start SHC's first frame. Glowacki singled to score Gordon the next at bat.
 
Pittman continued the scoring run with a doubles to send Glowacki home, cutting the Bear lead to 4-2.
 
In the 3rd, Gordon, Pittman and Destiny Pierce each knocked an RBI to out the Badgers ahead of the Bears, 5-4.
 
In the top of the 6th, the Bears tied the game up 5-5 in two hits. Gordon singled in the bottom half of the inning to bring home the game-winning run.
 
In the circle, Curry and Lauren Glass struck out three total foes. Curry allowed just single run in 6.2 innings.
 
The win marked the first against a ranked opponent since March 9, 2021 for the Badgers.
