Spring Hill Takes Third at SIAC Championship

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The Spring Hill College women's tennis team claimed third place at the 20024 Cricket SIAC Women's Tennis Championship after falling to Tuskegee, 4-0, and defeating Albany State, 4-3, at the Peachtree City Tennis Center on Saturday.
 
Danielle Day and Emma Koch started the day with a 6-1 win on the No. 3 court in doubles play against the No. 1-seeded Golden Tigers. (19-7, 17-1 SIAC). The Badgers (15-15, 12-6 SIAC) dropped the remaining two doubles games.
 
Spring Hill put up a tough fight against top-seeded Tuskegee in singles. Every court besides the No. 1 went into three sets. The Golden Tigers defeated the Badgers 4-0 in the semifinal match.
 
SHC went on to face #2 Albany State (20-5, 16-2 SIAC) in the third-place match later in the day. Claire Bosman and Brooke Powers (6-3) got things started with a win in the No. 1 doubles spot. The Badgers fell in the other two doubles games.
 
Powers (6-1, 6-3) secured the first singles win on court No. 3 for Spring Hill. Bosman defeated Asia Raulerson on the No. 2 court (6-2, 3-6, 6-2) to keep SHC within striking distance. Day (1-6, 6-4, 6-3) was victorious in the No. 6 spot and tied the match at 3-3. Romina Kroemer (6-1, 6-7 (2-10), 6-1) clinched the match point on court No. 4 and secured third place, the best SIAC Championship finish in program history, for the Badgers.
