MOBILE, Ala. – Spring Hill College alumni Cookie Strong Krehling ('96) (women's golf) and Meg Ekins Smith ('96) (women's golf, women's tennis) will both be inducted into the Spring Hill College Athletic Hall of Fame on October 17 at Byrne Memorial Hall.
Krehling was one of the first recruits for the inaugural women's golf team in 1992. As a freshman, Cookie was considered one of the top performers and invited to the Women's NAIA National Invitational Golf Championship. She followed that up with three-consecutive appearances at the national tournament and a pair of NAIA All-American honors. As a pioneer of women's golf at Spring Hill, Cookie is still considered one of the best golfers in the program's history.
As a freshman, Smith helped the inaugural women's golf team to a No. 4 ranking in the final NAIA Poll. Meg was a key member of the women's golf program that earned three consecutive national tournament appearances, including a runner-up finish in 1993-94. Smith was recognized in 1996 as a NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. She joined the women's tennis team her junior year and became a rare three-sport athlete. She was also named a NAIA All-American Scholar Athlete her senior year.
