ROCK HILL, S.C. (March 2, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball run at the 2022 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championship Tournament came to an end on Wednesday night with an 84-52 loss to the Morehouse College (MHC) Maroon Tigers in the quarterfinal round at the Rock Hill Sports & Event Center.
The East Division's top-seeded Maroon Tigers (22-6) wasted no time by racing out to a 16-2 lead just eight minutes into the contest. At the 7:49 media timeout, MHC held an 18-5 advantage and maintained a 38-16 cushion at the half.
Morehouse built out a 25-point lead early in the 2
nd half and held that advantage throughout most of the remainder of the contest.
SHC was paced by 12 points each from
Jaden Gray and
David Daniels while
Sam Davidson tallied 11 points and
Beril Kabamba collected 11 rebounds. The Badgers shot 32.2% (19-59) overall and 22.7% (5-22) from 3-point distance while losing 18 turnovers to 14 Tiger steals.
Six Morehouse players reached double-digits in scoring as the balanced Tiger attack shot 52.5% (32-61) from the floor and 44.1% (15-34) from beyond the arc. Morehouse lost 17 turnovers to three steals by the Badgers, but won the rebounding battle by a 40-34 margin.
The Badgers finished the 2021-2022 season with a 9-19 overall record and a 7-11 mark in conference play. Nine wins are the most by the Badgers since taking 12 victories during the 2017-2018 season.
