PENSACOLA, Fla. (February 25, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team closed out the 2021-2022 regular season with an 89-76 loss to non-conference rivals the University of West Florida (UWF) Argonauts at the UWF Field House on Friday night.
The Argos (18-10) came out of the gate hot, shooting 73.3% (22-30) in the first half and did not cool down until the final five minutes of the contest.
SHC was led on offense by redshirt freshman
Beril Kabamba with 18 points while
Jaden Gray added 13 points and
Ashton Hawkins came off the bench to pitch in 12 points. Freshman shooting guard
Tana Kopa put 10 points in the buckets as the Badgers shot 45.3% overall and 21.7% (5-23) from long distance. SHC out-rebounded UWF 33-31, but hurt themselves with 16 turnovers.
UWF finished the night shooting 63.3% (38-60) from the floor and 40% (8-20) from beyond the arc, but lost 13 turnovers. Five Argos reached double-digits in scoring paced by 20 points from Daniel Sofield.
The Badgers (8-18, 7-11 SIAC West) will play in the opening round of the 2022 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championship Tournament in Rock Hill, S.C. on Monday at 4:45 p.m. (east) versus a yet to be determined opponent.
