FRANKFORT, Ky. (January 29, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team suffered an 87-71 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division road loss to the Kentucky State University (KSU) Thorobreds at the William Exum Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Thorobreds (7-9; 3-5 SIAC West) led 42-33 at the intermission and by as much as 22 points midway through the 2
nd half.
SHC shot 42.9% (27-63) overall and a stout 53.8% (7-13) from beyond the arc, but struggled to 66.7% (10-15) in free throws and lost 22 turnovers, resulting in 26 points on the other end of the floor for KSU. The Badgers edged out a 34-32 lead in rebounding.
Beril Kabamba and
Tana Kopa each scored 21 points for Spring Hill as
Sam Davidson added 15 tallies on the scoreboard.
Four Thorobreds reached double-digits in scoring paced by Montrell Jacobs with 19 points. KSU shot an impressive 53.1% (34-64) from the floor, including 64.3% (9-14) from 3-point land. The 17 turnovers by KSU led to 19 points for SHC.
The Badgers (3-15, 2-9 SIAC West) will next travel to Wilberforce, Ohio on Monday to take on the Central State University (CSU) Marauders (6-11; 4-8 SIAC West) at 7:30 p.m. (east) in Beacon/Lewis Gymnasium.
