MOBILE, Ala. (January 22, 2022) – Still lacking their head coach
Craig Kennedy and several players due to Covid Protocols, the short-handed Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team suffered an 87-58 loss at the hands of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division-leading Miles College Golden Bears at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Saturday evening.
The Golden Bears (13-3; 8-1 SIAC West) built out a 45-26 lead at halftime before holding as much as a 37-point cushion late in the 2
nd half.
The Badgers shot 37% (20-54) from the floor including 38.9% (7-18) from 3-point range while making 84.6% (11-13) of their free throws. SHC hurt itself with 16 turnovers in the face of 11 steals by Miles that turned into 24 points on the other end for the visitors from Birmingham.
David Daniels and
Beril Kabamba each scored 12 points with Daniels taking down eight rebounds.
John Abate and
Sam Davidson scored 11 points each for SHC.
Miles shot a healthy 57.9% (33-57) from the field including 47.8% (11-23) from 3-point distance while making 71.4% (10-14) of their free throws and winning the rebounding war 32-28 under the baskets. Five Bears reached double-digits in scoring with Mykayle Carter scoring a game-high 19 points. Point guard Brandon Miller scored eight points with eight rebounds and dished out seven assists.
The Badgers (2-14, 1-8 SIAC West) will be back in home action at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. when they host the LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) Magicians (4-9; 1-3 SIAC West).
