MOBILE, Ala. (January 11, 2022) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team sustained an 87-81 non-conference road loss to the University of Mobile Rams at H. Austill Pharr Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
SHC found the game's first bucket with a 3-pointer by freshman guard
Sam Davidson in their opening possession, but the Rams (7-11) would run out to a 15-3 cushion at the 16:04 mark of the 1
st half.
The Badgers then stormed back to take a 28-27 lead, but Mobile would respond with two successful free throws to regain the 29-28 advantage.
Mobile rebuilt a 5-point lead at halftime and maintained a 60-55 edge at 12:22 left in the contest despite several spirited rallies by the Badgers. Freshman
Tana Kopa of SHC later kept the Badgers in range at 65-60 off a 3-pointer and a long 2-point bucket at 11:11.
At 3:37 remaining, Mobile held a 77-69 lead when another jumper from Kopa made it 77-71, but the Badgers would draw no closer than 6 points over the final minute of play.
Jaden Gray led SHC with 20 points while
Steven Lyles added 13 and Davidson pitched in 12 points. The Badgers shot 51.7% (31-60) from the floor and 41.2% (7-17) from 3-point distance with 27 rebounds, but lost 17 turnovers to seven Mobile steals.
Mobile shot 58.8% (30-51) from the field and 53.8% (7-13) from 3-point range while hauling down 35 rebounds with 16 turnovers in the face of two Badger steals. Logan Foutz lead all scorers with 25 points for the Rams as Joshua Williams contributed 20 points for the home team.
The Badgers (1-12, 0-6 SIAC West) will travel to Jackson, Tenn., on Saturday to face conference adversary the Lane College Dragons (7-7; 3-3 SIAC West) at 4 p.m. in J.F. Lane Gymnasium.
