COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to the Columbus State University (CSU) Cougars on Tuesday afternoon by the scores of 8-0 and 6-5 at Cougar Field.

SHC freshman starter
Olivia Indorf (6-3) struggled out of the gate in Game 1, walking the first three batters of the game and allowing three runs with two hits in just one-third of an inning pitched.
Paityn Desormeaux took over for the next 3.2 innings allowing six hits, three walks and three strikeouts.

Hannah Rose Corbin earned the win for the Cougars (20-9) in 4.0 innings with three hits, two walks and six strikeouts.

SHC fell behind 3-0 in the bottom of the 2
nd inning of the second game, but rallied to tie the game with three runs in the top of the 4
th frame with catcher
Ashley Ortiz providing the game-tying single up the middle to score shortstop
Hannah Fillmore and 3
rd baseman
Delaney Thomas.

Thomas provided the excitement for SHC in the 4
th inning with a single down the right field line to plate center fielder
Kaycie Saxton, but the Cougars would answer by beating out a potential inning-ending double play at 1
st base in the 5
th inning as the tying run scampered home.

CSU would punch a run-scoring single up the middle in the 6
th inning to take the 5-4 lead, but SHC was not dead yet. A leadoff double by Fillmore was followed by an infield single by Ortiz and a walk to Desormeaux to load the bases with no outs for Spring Hill in the 7
th inning. Second baseman
Madison Koger brought in the fifth Badger run with a grounder to 3
rd base that brought in Fillmore, but two force outs at home ended the threat.

The Cougars would use a leadoff walk and successful sacrifice bunt to put the winning run at 2
nd base with two outs when Lindsey Patton's single to center served as the walk-off winner.

Hannah Brenton (6-4) accepted the complete-game loss for the Badgers with eight hits, five walks and no strikeouts. Corbin (11-4) earned her second win of the day in 3.0 innings of relief with two hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

The Badgers (12-9) now travel to Tuskegee, Ala. on Wednesday to face the Golden Tigers (3-10) of Tuskegee University in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
