MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team split results with the University of West Florida (UWF) Argonauts (13-6) on Tuesday afternoon, falling 2-0 in the opener, but bouncing back for a 6-5 win in the nightcap at Murray Field.
SHC starter
Hannah Brenton (3-3) went the distance in the first game and allowed seven hits with one walk and 3 strikeouts. A triple from Ally Merrill in the 6
th inning, however, saw the throw from the outfield skip into the Argo dugout for a run and catcher Jacquelynne Poling drove a solo homer out of left-center later in the frame.
Grace Gilbert (3-3) earned the win in 5 innings with 2 hits, no walks and 2 strikeouts as Montana Young picked up her first save of the year in 2 innings with no walks and 4 strikeouts.
The second contest was a hit parade compared to its predecessor with the teams combining for 25 total hits and 11 runs.
Spring Hill brought in 3 runs in the 2
nd inning when designated player
Daniella Amador drove in 2 runs with a single to center and second baseman
Madison Koger followed it up with an RBI-single. UWF would answer with 2 runs in the top of 3
rd inning, but SHC bit back two runs in the bottom of the frame off a double over 1
st base by 1
st baseman
Paityn Desormeaux.
Freshman starter
Olivia Indorf (3-3) surrendered the circle to Desormeaux after 4.1 innings with 8 hits allowed but no walks and no strikeouts. Desormeaux would earn the save by pitching out of a 5
th inning jam and survived single runs in the 6
th and 7
th innings. In the 7
th, the Argos put the tying run at 2
nd and the go-ahead run on 1
st base with two outs, but a fly ball to right closed out the threat and the game.
Desormeaux's second save of the year came in 2.1 innings with 6 hits, no walks and 3 strikeouts.
Kelsey Sweatt (5-2) took the loss in 3.0 innings for UWF with 7 hits, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts while Young pitched the final 3 innings with four hits, no walks and 3 strikeouts.
Desormeaux had 2 hits in the second game as did shortstop

The Badgers (7-7) next host the William Carey University (WCU) Lady Crusaders (15-5) in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17.
